The Heineken Beverages Retirement Funds are designed to support you throughout your working life and beyond.

Your Funds not only help you save for a comfortable retirement but also provide important cover and support for you and your loved ones along the way.

These benefits include life cover, disability protection, funeral benefits, and spouse's benefits, if something were to happen to you.

Death Benefits

If you die, your death benefits will be carefully reviewed and distributed by the Fund’s Board of Trustees.

This process is guided by Section 37C of the Pension Funds Act, which ensures that your benefits are paid in a fair and lawful way.

Please note that Fund benefits are not part of your estate and are not distributed according to your will. This means the Trustees have the final say when deciding how your death benefits are allocated to your dependants and nominees.

Nomination of Beneficiary Form

HBSA

  • 5x your annual pensionable salary.

HBSA (ex-Distell)

  • Category 1: 1x annual salary
  • Category 2: 3x annual salary
  • Category 3: 5x annual salary (default option)

HBSA (ex-DPF)

  • Category 1: 4x annual pensionable salary
  • Category 2: 3x annual pensionable salary

Disability Benefits

A serious illness or accident can change your life and affect your ability to work. To protect you and your family, the Heineken Beverages Retirement Funds include a Disability Benefit through separate insurance policies.

If you become disabled and can no longer perform your job, you’ll need to undergo medical assessments. Once the insurer confirms your disability, you will receive a monthly income - until you recover, retire, or pass away, whichever happens first.

During this time, both you and your employer will continue to contribute to your retirement fund, helping your savings keep growing.

HBSA

  • 75% of monthly pensionable salary after 1-month waiting period, up to maximum benefit.
  • Contribution waiver = 21% of pensionable salary
  • Medical-aid waiver = maximum of 24 months premiums up to a maximum of R10 000 pm
The monthly benefit cannot exceed the net monthly income, subject to certain limitations, or the applicable free cover limit as set by the insurer if the member has not provided sufficient medical evidence to be underwritten.

HBSA (ex-Distell)

  • 100% of pensionable salary for the first 18 months after the 6-month waiting period.
  • Thereafter, 75% of your monthly pensionable salary up to maximum benefit.
  • Contribution waiver = 10.25% of pensionable salary
The monthly amount cannot exceed the net monthly income, subject to certain limitations, or the applicable free cover limit as set by the insurer if the member has not provided sufficient medical evidence to be underwritten.

HBSA (ex-DPF)

  • Category 1: 4 times annual pensionable salary
  • Category 2: 3 times annual pensionable salary
Reduction in benefits: If disabled within 5 years to NRA, the lumpsum benefit will reduce each month with 1.667% monthly (20% annually).

Funeral Benefits

Losing a loved one is never easy, and the Heineken Beverages Retirement Funds aim to ease some of the financial stress during such a difficult time.
The funeral benefit helps cover the immediate costs of a funeral if you, your spouse, or an eligible dependant pass away. It ensures that your family can focus on what matters most – supporting one another – without worrying about the expenses.

HBSA

  • Member, spouse: R20 000
  • Child 14 - 21: R20 000
  • Child 6 -13: R10 000
  • Child 1 - 5: R5 000
  • Child 0 - 11 months (incl stillborn): R5 000

HBSA (ex-Distell)

  • Member, spouse: R20 000

Spouse's Benefits

We include spouse benefits to help protect your partner’s financial future if something were to happen to you.
This benefit provides your spouse or life partner with financial support and is designed to give your loved one peace of mind and stability during a difficult time.
